Known as the oldest funeral establishment in Denton. The Shepherd Funeral Home was established in 1893. In the 1950's, Mrs. V.W. Shepherd sold the funeral home to Mr. J.B. Floyd and, Mr. Barrett Hamlett. Mr. Floyd was the grandson to the late J.B. Schmitz, founder of Schmitz Funeral Home, while Mr. Hamlett had 18 years in the funeral profession. Both men were licensed embalmers and funeral directors that truly began a long legacy of integrity for the funeral industry. The Floyd –Hamlett Funeral Home built a new facility at our current location, the corner of Mulberry and Carroll. As these families grew and more of the family became involved in the operations of the funeral home changed to Schmitz-Floyd-Hamlett.

While the business of the funeral home continued, a long time family friendship between the Yarbrough's and the Slay's brought about the opportunity to purchase Schmitz-Floyd-Hamlett in 2004. In 2007, the funeral home was purchased by the Lucas family, and became a very important part of or Denton County family owned funeral homes. |
